BENTON – The City of Benton announced on its Facebook page Tuesday that the city has received an Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Community Development Block Grant worth over $1.1 million for public infrastructure.
The money will be used to place a new water main on Joplin Street, which will bring better water pressure to this area.
The City is now asking for the community’s help in order to retain this grant. The City needs surveys filled out for the homes in the area outlined in a map below. If surveys are not filled out, Benton will lose the grant.
Employees are going door to door to get these surveys filled out. They are being placed with envelopes on doors at homes in the area. Surveys are also available for pick up at City Hall.
If you live in the Joplin Street area and have not received a survey, contact Benton City Hall so you can get help filling one out.
