DAHLGREN – Michael Ray Maurer, 83, of Dahlgren, IL passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at his home.
Michael was born in Decatur, IL on September 26, 1939, the son of Raymond McClure and Hazel (Rucker) Maurer. On February 28, 1959, he married Charlene (Dyer) Maurer, who survives.
Michael worked for PPG Industries in Mt. Zion, IL for 43 years. He was an active member of the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive, IL. He was a member of the Cerro Gordo Masonic Lodge #600 in Cerro Gordo, IL for 50 years and was active in Blue Lodge and Commandery Knights Templar. He was a glider plane pilot, and was a charter member of the Lawrenceville-Vincennes Glider Club in 1966. He was also a member of the N.R.A., the Muzzleloading Club, and the Rifle Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, scrimshaw carving and wood carving, and was a ham radio operator.
Michael is survived by his wife Charlene Maurer of Dahlgren, a son John (Susan) Maurer of Dahlgren, 2 granddaughters, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, and a brother Dana (Grace) Maurer of Denver, CO.
He was preceded in death by his father Raymond McClure, his mother Hazel Maurer, his step-father Glenn Maurer, a son Alan Maurer, a daughter Rhonda Choate, and a brother Lonnie Maurer.
Funeral services for Michael Ray Maurer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive, IL with Pastor Jeremy Hamson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church with Masonic funeral rites held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will follow the funeral service at Richardson Hill Cemetery in Dahlgren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church or at Gholson Funeral Home.
