WEST FRANKFORT – Richard Veldman, 92, of West Frankfort passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Helia Healthcare at 3:30 a.m.

He was born on October 5, 1930 in Willow Springs, Illinois to Richard and Alice (Volland) Veldman. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Rivetta “Bette” Veldman on November 30, 2021, parents, and 2 sisters Alice Gorter and Delores Dykstra.

He is survived by his daughter Debbie (Robert) Prince, sons Richard (Jetta) Veldman and David (Sonja) Veldman, sister-in-law Carmella Kauzlarich, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort at 11 a.m. with Pastor Michael Neubert officiating. Interment will be in the Denning Cemetery on the Orient Road. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
