VIENNA – The City of Vienna Friday warned residents to not drink city water after the Illinois EPA, conducting routine testing, detected a toxic algae bloom.
Residents were told not to cook or have pets drink the water until further testing. They were also told boiling the water would not improve the quality of the water in this situation. Illinois EPA told the city the water was safe to take a bath in, wash clothing and clean dishes, cups and utensils, etc. and recommended that those items be completely dry before use.
The city was able to provide residents with water Saturday and Sunday at Vienna City Park.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office told elderly residents or those that could not get out to call the sheriff’s office in order to find someone to deliver water to them.
