MURPHYSBORO – A Murphysboro man has been found guilty of violating the sex offender registry after a trial in Jackson County.

According to the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, 48-year-old Stanford D. Martin is facing between two and five years in prison with up to one year of mandatory supervised release. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled for later this year.

On April 21 of this year, after a week-long investigation of reports that Martin was failing to document his location, Murphysboro Police took Martin into custody without incident. The State’s Attorney’s office charged Martin with violating the sex offender registry and being a sexual predator knowingly within 500 feet of a public park.
