MARION – Marion Police are warning residents about a scam in which a caller is identifying themselves as a Marion Police officer and telling the recipient of the call they have a warrant for their arrest. The caller also requested personal information, including credit card information to quash the warrant.
It should also be noted that the scammer was also able to “spoof” a Marion Police Department telephone number.
Marion Police say they will never request payment information for any reason over the phone.
If you are suspicious of a caller identifying themselves as law enforcement, ask for the “officers” name and badge number, disconnect the phone call prior to answering any questions, and then call Marion Police at 618-993-2124.
