MARION – A Belvidere, Illinois man was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery, Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault following a Thursday night armed robbery at ROC One Stop on East DeYoung Street in Marion.

According to Marion Police, 28-year-old Demarco V. Stokes was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

Officers responded to the reported armed robbery at ROC One Stop around 7:45 p.m. When police arrived, the initial responding officer met with the store clerk, who said he had been robbed by a male who displayed a knife. The male robber fled the story with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officers canvassed the area to the north, which is the direction the suspect fled, and Marion Police K-9’s were deployed to track the suspect. A short time later, an officer spotted a man near Lincoln School that matched the description of the suspect, and this man was detained for questioning.

Stokes was then charged and taken to jail. A knife and an undisclosed amount of cash was recovered from Stokes.

Marion Police continue to investigate.
