WEST FRANKFORT – No injuries were reported in a fire incident Friday morning at Frankfort Community High School in West Frankfort.

Fire officials confirm staff and students were safely evacuated from the building after smoke was seen coming from the ventilation in a second floor classroom.

Around 12:30 Friday afternoon, firefighters confirmed the incident was isolated to an HVAC unit on the second floor, and firefighters ultimately cleared the smoke from the building.

The building and surrounding areas, including Main Street, were closed to the public until officials gave the okay for them to reopen.

According to Superintendent Matt Donkin on the school’s website, high school students were dismissed at 12:30 p.m.

However, all other schools in the district remained open through their regular dismissal time.
