METROPOLIS – The following information was released by the Metropolis Police Department on Monday, May 22, 2023.

May 15, 2023
Metropolis officers and detectives were investigating an auto theft which had occurred in the parking lot of the fire station. The stolen vehicle was recovered in the parking lot of Lois Lane Apartments, after the victim firefighter noticed the vehicle after returning from a fire call. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that the victim’s cash app card was used at the Speedy Mart. Since the card was locked, the sale was declined. The subject left but was captured on video surveillance. The subject was identified as Eugene Harris, 64, of Metropolis. Harris was located and brought in for questioning. He eventually admitted to trying to use the card and admitted to being a passenger in the stolen vehicle. Harris gave false information as to his identity giving somebody else’s name and date of birth. Once his true identity was obtained, officers learned that he was wanted on a warrant for Theft in Chicago, IL. Harris was charged with the warrant and obstructing identification. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. The auto theft case is still under investigation and arrests are expected.

Metropolis officers assisted Illinois Department of Corrections Parole Agents with a warrant. The warrant was issued for a parole violation. David B, Anderson, 35, was arrested in a residence at the Super City Apartments on East 5th Street.

May 16, 2023
Metropolis officers were called to a home in the 800 block of East 3rd. The victim called to report that he returned home and found Rachael L. Cain, 48, of Metropolis asleep on his couch. There is an active order of protection, prohibiting her from being at the residence. Officers arrived, woke her up and took her into custody. Cain was charged with violation of an order of protection. Cain was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 18, 2023
At approximately 4:16 a.m., Metropolis 911 received a call of a person trying to break into a residence in the 1800 block of Market Street. Upon arrival, officers met with the victims who stated that they were asleep and awakened by the sound of a large crash at the front door. The victims observed a male inside the living room. When confronted the suspect fled. Video footage showed the incident and the officers recognized the offender from numerous previous encounters. At 4:25 a.m., officers received a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 1600 block of Ferry. Officers learned that the same suspect had caused a disturbance and had been previously trespassed from that property. He fled prior to police arrival. At approximately 8 a.m., Craig L Montgomery was located and taken into custody. He was charged with Burglary, Theft and Criminal Trespass to Property. Montgomery was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Amanda J. Taylor, 39, of Metropolis was arrested at a residence in the 1100 block of Butler. Taylor was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Knox County, IN for FTA-Aggravated Assault on a family member. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 19, 2023
A Metropolis officer stopped a grey Chevrolet pick-up truck on 12th Street and Commercial Drive. A computer check showed that the vehicle had suspended registration due to a mandatory insurance violation. A computer check on the driver, Lanetta S. Meade, 35, of Marion, IL revealed that her driver’s license was suspended as well. She could not provide proof of insurance. Meade was charged with operation of a motor vehicle with suspended registration, driving while license suspended and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis officers were called to a fight in progress, in the alley near 1905 Ferry. Upon arrival, officers learned that Michael J. Seaton, 38, of Metropolis had struck the female victim in the face two times and also struck her in the leg. Witnesses on the scene collaborated the incident. Seaton was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 20, 2023
A Metropolis officer stopped a gold colored Cadillac on 12th and Ferry for speeding 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. A computer check on the driver, Carlos J. Bolden, 59, of Paducah, KY, revealed that he had a suspended driver’s license. Bolden was charged with speeding and driving while license suspended. He was released on bond.

The preceding information pertains to an arrest made by the Metropolis Police Department. This arrest was made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
