CAVE-IN-ROCK – The Cave-in-Rock Ferry will remain open with service continuing on the normal schedule starting today. The ferry provided noticed Monday that it would halt service indefinitely at 10 last night when the current two-year contract to fund the ferry operation expired.
In a posting on the ferry’s Facebook page, ferry operator Lonnie Lewis indicated a tentative contract agreement means the ferry will remain in service on the regular operating schedule on Wednesday morning. Details of the agreement with Crittenden County, Kentucky officials are set to be released today.
Again, the Cave-in-Rock Ferry will remain in service on the normal schedule.
The Cave-In-Rock Ferry is jointly funded by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Illinois Department of Transportation through the Ohio River Ferry Authority. It connects KY 91 with Illinois Route 1 across the Ohio River between Crittenden County, KY, and Hardin County, IL.
