Buckingham: Winter Storm May Make Travel Hazardous

BENTON – With the first major winter storm of the year approaching, Franklin County Emergency Management Director Ryan Buckingham says travel may become hazardous around the area. He says you should have your basic emergency preparedness kit ready to go if you have to be out on the roads.

If you have to travel, make sure you tell someone where you’re going and what roads you plan to take to get to your destination.

Buckingham suggests giving the snow plows plenty of room to work so they can clear the roads of snow and ice in order to make travel conditions better.

Buckingham says his agency offers you a way to stay informed during the storm or any emergency anytime.

A Winter Storm Watch will go into effect later tonight and continue through Friday evening.

New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch is possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is also possible.
