MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with attempted burglary Friday night of the Dollar Tree on Broadway and the subsequent attempted armed robbery of Times Square Liquor on 42nd Street.
According to police reports, officers responded around 11:23 p.m. Friday to Walmart in Mt. Vernon after a Dollar Tree employee reported seeing an offender from an attempted burglary earlier that evening at Dollar Tree.
During their investigation into the attempted burglary around 9:41 p.m. Friday at Dollar Tree and the attempted armed robbery around 10:07 that same evening at Times Square Liquor, officers were able to identify Callie J.L. Buchanan as the suspected offender of both incidents.
Additionally, Buchanan was found to have stolen property from Walmart.
Mt. Vernon Police detectives were called in to assist with the investigation. Detectives obtained a search warrant for a vehicle that Buchanan possessed and located property used during the commission of the crimes.
Police say their investigation began after Dollar Tree employees reported that a white man had entered the office area of the store and attempted to break into the safe. The offender was confronted by an employee and ran from the store.
Officers then responded a short time later to a report of an attempted armed robbery where a handgun was displayed. The offender, who matched the description of the offender from the Dollar Tree attempted burglary, fled the scene without taking anything from the store.
Buchanan was ultimately taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of burglary, aggravated armed robbery and felony retail theft. He awaits the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.Tweet
