Two Arrested in Wednesday Night Robbery of Mt. Vernon Cab Driver

MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Police have released the identity of one of the two suspects arrested Wednesday night in connection with the alleged armed robbery of a taxi cab driver.

According to police reports, 18-year-old Sydney Pecora and a 17-year-old juvenile were taken into custody on charges of robbery, mob action and aggravated battery.

Pecora is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

He was formally charged Thursday in Jefferson County Court with robbery and aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. Both charges are Class 3 felonies punishable by between 2 and 5 years in prison if convicted.

The juvenile has been detained in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center pending a court appearance in Jefferson County.

The arrests came shortly after police responded to a report around 10:33 p.m. of an armed robbery in the 1600 block of Pace.

Upon their arrival, officers made contact with the driver of a taxi cab who reported he had been robbed by two subjects who fled the area on foot.

The taxi driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the robbery.

The officers began to dispatch suspect information to other officers in the area which led to the suspects being located at Spero Family Services on Richview Road and taken into custody.

Mt. Vernon Police detectives were notified and responded to assist with the investigation.
