Georgia Man Unharmed after Crashing Semi on I-57 in Williamson County

MARION – A Powder Springs, Georgia man was involved in a semi crash on northbound I-57 at mile post 50 in Williamson County Tuesday night.

According to Illinois State Police, 43-year-old Vernon Williams was driving his semi north on I-57 near mile post 50 when his semi left the right side of the road and into the trees.

The crash happened within the construction zone, which consisted of one lane being closed at the time of the crash.

The interstate was shut down for an hour and a half until the semi could be removed. Traffic was rerouted at exit 45 to Routes 37 and 148.

The semi suffered heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

Williams was issued a citation for improper lane usage. He was not hurt.
